Rutgers Automated Mass-mailing System
Troubleshooting guide for mass-mailing recipients.
This document attempts to address many of the common issues people have with receiving mass-mailings from the RAMS system, and describes measures available for resolving them.
You don't get mail you should be getting.
The most common reason for this occurring is also easily fixed by you. You should look yourself up in the Rutgers On-line Directory, and verify that the e-mail address there is a valid address at which you check your mail regularly. If it is not, you can use the links provided to change your e-mail address. If it is set to the appropriate address, then you should contact RAMS support.
You are getting mail you shouldn't be getting.
In most cases, you should contact RAMS support with a complete description of your problem. However, there are certain cases in which nothing can be done. Most all of these cases are with students enrolled in one of the schools that has class offerings or facilities that span campuses. Because the nature of the notices may be a matter of public health or safety, and because we can't readily tell which members of that school will be on which campus at any given time, we err on the side of caution and notify all members of that school on all campuses. A good example of this is the School of Nursing.
You are getting mail you don't want to get.
The university is legally required to make certain public announcements to the students, faculty, and staff of the university. Because of this, you are not allowed to opt yourself out of university mailings. In addition, the RAMS administrator is not permitted to opt you out because we cannot make appropriate judgment about the nature of a list with regards to the university's legal obligations. However, you may try mailing <listname>-firstname.lastname@example.org (where you replace <listname> with the list in question), and request to be removed from the list.
You need to get your mailings at a different address.
Go to the Rutgers On-line Directory, and follow the links on that page provided to change your e-mail address.
You wish to receive a mailing you normally wouldn't
In general, the RAMS administrator is not allowed to add people to a mailing list. However, many lists will happily accept additional recipients. Simply contact <listname>-email@example.com (where you replace <listname> with the list in question), and request to be added to the list.
For everything else, contact support, and remember to include all pertinent information.
